Discipline or willpower?
Neither. It’s habits!
Feeling too busy and rushed in the morning to exercise, too occupied during the day, and too tired to do it in the evening?
Want to eat clean, nutritious food, but your family members don’t?
Or does your diet-plan tell you what to eat while your cravings and taste buds are shouting for something else?
No matter what change you want to make in any aspect of your life - your habits drive you to your goals.
This is true for your:
· Health
· Career
· Daily work
· Focus, productivity
· Manage your time (time management is not the answer to procrastination btw! It’s the other way around)
· Even relationships and family!
You start with lofty goals & bold declarations of taking action!
You get off to a good start!
You go full steam ahead and then… you burn out.
Then you’re stressed about not being to stick with the habit, and you go back to your old ways.
That’s because you started out with way more than you’re used to.
Even a seemingly uncomplicated new routine can be too much.
I used to have a muffin top. I hid it well with my untucked shirts and loose dresses. I wasn't so overweight that people would call me fat, but I knew the jiggly thighs and bulging belly were there.
Like so many people, I bought into the hacks that promise to “jump-start weight loss or consistent exercise.
Sigh*hic
And it rarely leads you to a habit.
It wasn't until I finally figured out that impulses and compulsions can be naturally subdued with your own habits. I know that the idea of "changing your ways" often feels impossible - I get it. Notice that I use the word “FEELS” because you’re reacting to your emotions, not just what seems or sounds impossible.
But here's the thing – a lot of hacks try to change your mindset, not your feelings.
They rely on
And then, you have a bad day or something annoying or stressful happens.
If something is not a habit, you won’t feel like it. You skip it. You retaliate. You don’t care.
It’s not a big deal because it’s deeply ingrained, and a part of who and how you are.
The bottom line is: tricks and hacks are UNSUSTAINABLE.
They are NOT YOU.
They are not your habitual natural lifestyle.
1st – You want to make habits your ‘go-to’
2nd – Reinforce them with feel-good Celebrative Accountability!
[You have a Plan B, not an excuse]
You show your brain that you are doing this, you can do this, and you did it.
And this is how Habits give you Evidence-Based Confidence, and Sustainability.
As my client, you open up and trust me with your vulnerabilities. I appreciate that. And beyond my understanding and expertise, my qualifications speak to the time, effort, and dedication I've invested in honing my skills.
But besides my education, and most importantly,
I've been where you are. I hear you. I have life experience both professionally and personally. I know the pressures and joys of climbing up the ladder at company jobs, job searches, dating, family life, and work-life imbalance. I got married, experienced divorce, dated again (OMG!!!) chose the love of my life, remarried, went through menopause, and I’m aging not gracefully but with good health and power!
My first time on a plane was on an international flight at one week old. To this day, not speaking the language will never keep from traveling anywhere.
On the adventurous front, I've skydived three times, bungee jumped in the original New Zealand spot with a river plunge.
Brain candy - indulge in 3 reality shows, (hint: RH of__ ), though I'm too embarrassed to watch them with my husband in the room!"
Speaking of which, my love-life gets spicier with time (age). My husband and I are going through the continual realizations of midlife together with laughter, love, and two ridiculously gorgeous - cute cats. One of which cuddles
And I love to cuddle! Be it my cat(s), my husband, a cushion, my pillow, myself in a loooong warm shower- heaven!
